You know with all the problems with illegal immigration, we have only ourselves to blame. It is due to our dysfunctional government that sends mix messages to Latino immigrants.
For example, on the one hand our government(s), ie state and federal, business's that it is illegal to deny housing, education and healthcare to "all" people because it is discrimination. Thus illegal immigrants believe they have a right to live and learn and be taken care of in America.
But on the other hand, our government tells business's that it is illegal to hire / employ illegal immigrants.
Then we have that third hand, whereas our state government knows that it is illegal to provide some services to illegal immigrants but will do so as long as the immigrants can provide some proof of residency and identity. And some state agencies don't bother to validate the proof.
Well, now schools and local governments, and even the president of the united states celebrate Cinco de Mayo in one form or another. Whether its parades, banquets or school activities occuring outside of the typical school day.
The question is "why does America celebrate Cinco de Mayo?" It is a Mexican holiday and not American. Why should we give a damn about the Mexican's winning their freedom from the French, when during those times we also had poliical issues with France, like their ownership of land that we eventually purchase from them.
While it seems okay for Hispanics to celebrate Cinco de Mayo and their independence day, eg September 16th, their own way. American institutions should not encourage or participate these Mexican holidays, because it tells illegal immigrants that we in America our proud that Mexico won its freedom from France, when in reality we shouldn't give a damn and should be against the law.
